چکیده
The water-gas shift reaction is one of the most important reactions in industrial hydrogen production and plays a key role Fischer-Tropsch-type synthesis, which widely believed to generate hydrocarbons deep carbon cycle but little known at extreme pressure-temperature conditions found Earth's upper mantle. Here, we performed extensive ab initio molecular dynamics simulations free energy calculations study reaction. We direct formation formic acid from CO supercritical water 10-13 GPa 1400 K without any catalyst. Contrary common assumption that or formate an intermediate product, HCOOH thermodynamically more stable than products above 3 1000-1400 K. Our suggests may not happen mantle, be carrier reducing environments, participating many geochemical processes Earth.

Fluids at high pressures and temperatures
With high pressures, supercritical fluids can be studied over a very wide range of density. Fluids with strongly interacting polar molecules for example water are of particular interest. Results for several thermophysical properties are discussed. Density, dielectric constant and self—ionization of water have been determined or predicted to 1000 °C. Beyond 20 GPa very hot water appears to becom...

High pressure compounds and polymorphs are investigated for a broad range of purposes such as determine structures and processes of deep planetary interiors, design materials with novel properties, understand the mechanical behavior of materials exposed to very high stresses as in explosions or impacts. Synthesis and structural analysis of materials at extreme conditions of pressure and tempera...
متن کاملMagnetic ordering at anomalously high temperatures in Dy at extreme pressures
In an attempt to destabilize the magnetic state of the heavy lanthanide Dy, extreme pressures were applied in an electrical resistivity measurement to 157 GPa over the temperature range 1.3–295 K. The magnetic ordering temperature To and spin-disorder resistance Rsd of Dy, as well as the superconducting pair-breaking effect Tc in Y(1 at.% Dy), are found to track each other in a highly nonmonoto...
متن کاملFirst-principles modelling of Earth and planetary materials at high pressures and temperatures
Atomic-scale materials modelling based on first-principles quantum mechanics is playing an important role in the science of the Earth and the other planets. We outline the basic theory of this kind of modelling and explain how it can be applied in a variety of different ways to probe the thermodynamics, structure and transport properties of both solids and liquids under extreme conditions. Afte...
